North West 200 Week
May is a huge month for biker events, with the North Coast usually revving up for the North West 200 Week which would have been held this week. With the event cancelled for the second year due to Covid restrictions, we’ve pulled together some impressive facts, records and highlights of the North West 200. Now to begin the countdown for NW200 2022…
Established in 1929
That’s right, 92 years on from the very first race in 1929 the event still stands as one of the world’s fastest road races and NW 200 has seen some of the biggest names in international racing take to the track.
The International North West 200 is Northern Ireland’s largest annual sporting event.
The NW200 attracts race enthusiasts from all over the world, with over 150,000 visitors making their way to the North Coast for the race weekend alone!
It’s not just popular in Northern Ireland…
With over 800 million TV broadcasts globally, including over 90 million broadcasts in North America, the North West 200 puts Northern Ireland firmly on the racing map.
The North West 200 route is featured in video games
TT Superbikes: Real Road Racing Championship for Playstation 2, as well as Ride 2 (by Milestone srl) for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC both feature the North West 200 route.
And the record holder is…
Alastair Seeley holds the record for the most wins of any rider in North West 200 history, with 24 wins and 32 podium finishes.
